70MHz Trophy 2017

Entry numbers were up from 59 participants last year to 65 this year which is both great news and consistant with 4m participation overall.

Most described the tropo conditions as average and several mentioned that they had gone QRT early which in hindsight was the wrong choice. Just as in 2016 a short Sporadic E opening occurred right at the end of the contest with some stations working EA. More unusual was the auroral propogation which was present in the last hour of the contest. This extended far to the south with stations in JO01 working contacts via AU.

A quick look at the logs show DX in : EA, ES, LA, OZ, TF and YL.

Logging standards are improving slightly with an average of 3.1% of QSOs being 'broken'.

The Colchester RA, G0VHF/P, for winning the Open Section and being awarded the VHF Managers Trophy
Erik, G8XVJ, who won the single operator (others) section and, as the highest scoring single operator entry, is awarded the Four Metre Cup
Terry, G3MXH for winning the single operator (fixed) section
